Kick-off for targeted cancer program
Kick-off for targeted cancer program
January 24, 2012

The research group Norwegian Cancer Genomics Consortium (NCGC) has sought funding for a three-year research project to study genetic changes in cancer tumors. Oslo Cancer Cluster is supporting this initiative.

- The study can be the start on a National program for targeted cancer treatment in Norway, says Jónas Einarsson, Chairman of Oslo Cancer Cluster.

The program was presented for Norwegian clinicians, hematologist and industry at Cancer Crosslinks, January 12th. Cancer Crosslinks is a national meeting place where the latest trends in oncology research and clinical development are discussed.

Succesful 4th Cancer Crosslinks

This was the 4th Cancer Crosslinks, and attracted more than 230 participants to the new research building at Oslo university hospital, Radium. In addition several clinicians followed via live stream from all over Norway.

The program featured excellent presentations around personalised medicine in oncology: Has the era come to Norway? Are we prepared? How will it affect drug development and treatment? How is the current climate for approval of innovative drugs in Norway? The interdisciplinary audience enjoyed stimulating discussions inside the auditorium and during the networking breaks.

Round table discussion with Cancer Research UK
The program also included a round table discussion between keynote speaker James Peach from Cancer Research UK and representatives from industry, hospitals, and organizations. This was a great opportunity for the participants to discuss the UK initiative and related Norwegian activities.

The day was rounded off with a vibrant Networking evening allowing participants to intensify existing and build new relationships. Cancer Crosslinks 2012 was organized in partnership between Oslo Cancer Cluster, Bristol-Myers-Squibb and MSD Norway.
